Barbara's studio and home is in Tottenham, Ontario, just north of Toronto. She completed her arts education at the Ontario College of Art majoring in Textile Design. After graduating in 1986, she continued her studies in Textile Sciences at the University of Guelph.
While at O.C.A., Barbara was introduced to hand painted silk. Under the company name of Angles, she designed and produced silk scarves for the Canadian and U.S. retail and wholesale market. Barbara also developed scarf designs for corporate events. She won several awards for her work.
After many years of developing the surface of cloth with colour and pattern, she has been further altering the cloth's surface through stitch. She has been investigating a floral smocking stitch, altering the grid formation and developing illusions of depth, with colour and stitch. Barbara presents her work in a variety of shows and galleries in Ontario. Currently she is developing a body of work for a solo exhibition.
She incorporates fun, play, (exploration) and learning in her classes. Her specialities are: historical and traditional textile techniques, and surface design. She welcomes the opportunity to develop programs for art curriculum requirements.
Barbara believes, that as an artist, it is important to share your knowledge and experience; to encourage other artists in their endeavors and to challenge the public in a higher understanding of craft.
